A hollow circular bar having outside diameter twice the inside diameter is used as a beam. from the bending moment diagram of the beam, it is found that the bar is subjected to a bending moment of 40 kNm. A composite bar is made up by connecting a steel member and a copper member rigidly fixed at their ends. The cross-sectional area of steel member is A cm2 while that of the copper member is 2A cm2 for half the length and A cm2 for the other half of the length. the coefficient of expansion of steel and copper are α and 1.25α respectively while the elastic moduli are E and 0.5E respectively.
